Allergic rhinitis (AR) – is one the prevalent chronic diseases of childhood and the important phase of the atopic march. The AR debut commonly takes place in early childhood, but due to clinical peculiarities and age restrictions of diagnostic tools the disease may stand unveiled for some years. The paper addresses the practical approach to the diagnosis of AR among children younger than 3 years old. The confirmed diagnosis means the need for the adequate therapy; young children have justified limits in using the traditional intranasal topical treatments for AR. In this age group the usage of non-sedative antihistamines, especially – desloratadine (Aerius) – is recommended as well for AR treatment, as also for possible hampering the atopic march itself. The paper covers the literature review and original data analysis.
