Different populations of dendritic cells were found in human airways. They have a different location and different functions. A large number of studies have demonstrated that airway dendritic cells play an important role in the development of allergic diseases such as allergic rhinitis and asthma. Especially important is the understanding of the mechanisms by which dendritic cells promotes the development of tolerance, but not allergic inflammation in response to contact with an allergen. This will allow creating new therapeutic opportunities in the treatment and prevention of allergic rhinitis and asthma.
